What is the difference between Category 5e and Category 6?

The difference between Category 5e and Category 6 is in the transmission performance and extension of the available bandwidth from 100 MHz up to 1Gb for Category 5e (Max 90m) and up to 10 GB for Category 6 (Max 55m).

Why wouldn’t I skip category 6 and go straight to optical fibre?

You can certainly do that and it is recommended between buildings and over long runs, however for general workstations you will find that a fibre system is still very expensive.

What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the new and innovative way to make and receive phone calls over your broadband internet connection. It involves directing your calls through the internet instead of the standard telephone lines. Using VoIP technology, your phone calls are converted into data that is sent and received through your broadband connection - just like email.

What are SIP trunks?

SIP Trunking is a method by which business phone systems can operate using an internet connection instead of a traditional phone line.

What do you mean by IP Phone

A VoIP phone or IP phone uses Voice over IP technologies for placing and transmitting telephone calls over an IP network, such as the Internet, instead of the traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN).
